Obituary of janie ann worthing
Janie Ann Worthing (nee Ferrell) was born to Glen Ray Ferrell and Meredith Loretta Ferrell (nee Duty) on January 29, 1949 in Logan, West Virginia. She died tragically in a car accident on July 17, 2022 at the age of 73.
The eldest of four children, Janie helped to take care of her siblings while doing things around the house, learning to cook at an early age.
Growing up in the hills of West Virginia, Janie had a great love of nature. She enjoyed watching birds and even made-up stories about their lives. She often said she felt the most peace when sitting on top of a mountain and feeling God’s presence all around her there in nature.
Janie’s early schooling was in a one-room school house where her mother was teacher. By her high school years, she was in a large school building. She was an active member of the National Honor Society and took her schooling seriously.
After graduation high school, Janie went on to a business school in Ohio, where she learned bookkeeping and shorthand. She enjoyed her time there and used the skills learned at the school throughout her entire career. In what would become the biggest move of her life, Janie took a job with United Airlines and was stationed at what is now Reagan National Airport. She worked in the Operations department and really enjoyed her work there. A few days after starting her job with United Airlines, Janie met a young man named Leigh Worthing. The two were married in a small ceremony a few months after meeting and stayed married for over 50 years. They never stopped loving each other through thick and thin and trusted to God to see them through all that life brought their way.
After having her daughter, Sarah, Janie soon became a mother to all of Sarah’s friends. Every friend that came to her house called her “Mom” and continued to do so until her death. Janie passed her love of nature to her daughter and the two enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets together whenever possible.
After working for a travel agency for some time, Janie began working for the school system and eventually retired after many years of service. She always enjoyed loving on children.
Janie always had a smile for people and became a greeter at her church. It was one of her greatest joys to be able to show hospitality to others and make people feel welcome. She loved hearing about everyone’s lives and encouraging them.
Janie was preceded in death by two children, and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, two grandchildren, her mother, her brother, and 2 sisters. She will be greatly missed.
