Rita King, 84, of Pace, Florida, was called home to Heaven on March 15, 2022.
Rita was a devoted Christian who loved the lord and loved to share her faith with others. She lived her life on her terms, cherishing and being cherished by her family and friends. She was an avid traveler always seeking the next adventure. She moved often, and preferred to live by the mountains, beach, or bay. She enjoyed writing, reading, gardening, and creating various projects. She was an animal lover and cared for many pets over the years.
Rita was born Dorothy Yvonne Pitts to Devaughn Theopolis Pitts and Dollie Marie Howell Pitts. While she changed her name later in life, she was always Aunt Dot or Aunt Dorothy to the many nieces and nephews in her life.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents Devaughn Theopolis Pitts and Dollie Marie Howell Pitts, her daughter Debi Barnes Stone, her first husband Maxwell C. Barnes, and her sister Joyce Pitts Pierce.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth King, her brother Michael Pitts Sr., her son James Barnes, and her daughter June Barnes. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Debi's children - Raty Scurvics and Steven Stone; James' children - Tina Marie, Amanda Barnes, Alyssa Barnes, Devin Barnes, and Jonah Barnes; June's children - Daniel Barnes and Laura Barnes Moder (Josiah Moder), four great grandchildren; Christopher Morgan Barnes, Rhaine, Simon, and Gracelynn Moder, nephews and niece, Tony Pierce, Michael Pitts, Jr., Jeffrey Pitts, Jennifer Eisenhart, as well as, many great nephews and nieces, other family, and friends.
