Obituary of sherwood griscom
Sherwood “Buck” Griscom, 85, of Gulf Breeze, Florida went to be the high sheriff of Heaven on March 3, 2021.
He was born in Oceanside, New York to the late LeRoy and Mae Griscom. Early in life they moved to Miami. It was there in Miami where he met the love of his life, Franny and wife of 58 years.
Buck served in the USN aboard the USS Coral Sea as an aviation electronics specialist. On April 1, 1957, he joined the Miami Beach Police Department and retired in 1986. SGT Griscom was a highly decorated detective in sexual assault, arson & homicide. Once he retired, he moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Buck had a sense of adventure, jokester, amazing diver, enjoyed writing poems and a book, always looked for a new project, avid reader, history buff, amateur feather weight boxer, and loved to travel with his wife. Any time anyone asked how he was he said “no complaints” proudly. He was a COP-companion of people.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Francile (81); son, David (59) and daughter, Lisa (53).
He is survived by his son, Roy Griscom (62); five grandchildren, Keli and Nathan Novonty, Joshua Griscom, Heather and Alan Graf, Kari and Alex Bustard and Sherwood and Vanessa Smith and 12 great-grandchildren, Sophie, Abbie, Lillie, Benjamin, Noah, Zackary, Tripp, Riley, Bradey, Westley, Huntley and Jax.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 with visitation from 12:00-1:00pm and service at 1:00pm at Family-Funeral & Cremation, 5627 N. Davis Highway, Pensacola, Florida 32503. Committal Service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery immediately following the service.
