Obituary of odie mcclane eddins, jr.
Odie McClane Eddins, Jr., lifelong resident of Pensacola, FL, passed away on January 9, 2021 at home surrounded by his wife and children.
Odie was born to Odie McClane Eddins, Sr. and Mattie (Gulsby) Eddins, who proceeded him in death. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1961 and was a proud member of the Fighting Tigers football team. He graduated from PJC, UWF & Troy State University with an AA, Bachelors and Masters degrees. Odie became a Deputy Sheriff with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department in 1965 and retired in 1990 having achieved the rank of Major serving as Director of the Department of Corrections. He then established a business along with his son, brother and brother-in-law known as Odie Eddins Bail Bonds. Odie was a 3rd degree Mason, member of the York & Scottish Rite, and Hadji Shrine Temple. He was also a member of many local civic groups. Odie attended Olive Baptist Church.
Odie is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Alice (Franks) Eddins; children, Allison (Ray) Cooey and Travis (Angelia) Eddins; grandchildren, Ryan & Tara Cooey, and Jacob, Alexandra & Cooper Eddins; sisters, Hazel Presley and Yvonne Beers and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Odie is preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Bill, Houston, and Walter and sisters, Bertha, Margie and Audrey and also by his in-laws, Davis and Stella Franks.
Odie was a great husband, son, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His wisdom, kindness and love will be greatly missed.
Odie requested to be cremated and no services be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Covenant Hospice.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Alex Brown, his staff and the Sacred Heart Oncology Group. We would also like to thank Covenant Hospice, especially Aimee, for the care, compassion and respect she showed to Odie.
