Obituary of Solveig dellacroce
Solveig “Betty” Jorgensen DellaCroce, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, lost her battle with Alzheimer’s, further complicated by Covid-19, on August 22, 2020, just one day short of her 79th birthday.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her children, Adam DellaCroce and Michelle DellaCroce; her sister, Alida Jorgensen Misiano; her grandchildren, Heather Woods, Taylor Grant, Noah Moore and Connor Wolfe; lifelong friend, Bea Kim and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ole A. Jorgensen and her sisters, Eve Brewer and Anna Jorgensen.
Betty was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 23, 1941 but over time called many places home. She lived in Pennsylvania, Vermont, Florida, Texas, Virginia and Alaska over the span of her lifetime, associating home with family and friends that she loved.
Always up for a new adventure in her life, some of Betty’s favorite activities included travel, ballroom dancing, art shows and going to the beach. If you asked her what her favorite hobbies were, camping would not have made the top 5, but Betty was often found camping over the years, either with family, or as a chaperone for a scout trip, or even driving across the country, and had even been known to try her luck gold mining in Alaska with her camping family.
Betty loved her Norwegian heritage and as a member of the Sons of Norway, she participated in rowing competitions, learned Rosemaling (traditional Norwegian painting), volunteered to help paint the trim surrounding the main hall in the traditional Norwegian style and even took Norwegian language classes. One of her favorite hobbies was baking various Norwegian treats such as Krumkaker and Norwegian Almond Cake and she could often be found volunteering her time to make Lefse for lodge events.
Betty will forever be in our hearts as a smart, caring, selfless, and considerate soul. Her engaging smile and presence will be forever missed.
Although a memorial service is not being held, please consider donating in her memory to the Alzheimer’sAssociation.
