Roosevelt Lee McKenzie, 85, of Pensacola, Florida passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.
Elder Roosevelt McKenzie was born in Hammond, Louisiana, April 25, 1934, to the late Viola Boyd. He was later adopted and raised by the late Barney and Mary McKenzie. He enlisted in the United States Army in August 1953 and served 2 years active duty and later served in the Army Reserves for a number of years. Upon separating from the military, he was employed at Monsanto where he worked for 35 years. In 1961 he married Shirley Wiggins and to that union was added five children.
He served as a deacon at St. John Baptist Church for many years until he accepted his calling to the ministry. In 1985, he founded and became pastor of Apostle Faith Holiness Church. He pastored there until his health began to fail in 2006.
Elder McKenzie loved his family and leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Shirley (Wiggins) McKenzie; sons, Garland (Hermena), Anthony (Paula) McKenzie, Michael (Sharon) McKenzie and two daughters, Mary D. (James) Knight, and Tonja Tucker. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who loved and adored him. He is also survived by his very devoted brother, John James and his wife, Sarah, along with four sisters, Maxine Williams, Collette Richardson, Mary Knight, and Rose Swan.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 with visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 am and service at 11:00 am at Pentecostal Temple Church, 6550 N. Palafox Street, Pensacola, Florida 32503. Interment will immediately follow the service at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida 32508.
