Obituary of Dennis George Randle
Dennis ‘Denny’ George Randle, 74, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1949, in Atchison, Kansas, to Charles Gordon Randle and Corinne “Connie” Elizabeth Tacon, Denny lived in Libya, Germany, Colorado, California, Alabama, North Carolina, Hawaii, and Missouri, before moving to Pensacola, Florida, in 1974. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Missouri, where he majored in political science.
He met his high school sweetheart, Susan ‘Susie’ Carmichael, at Kailua High School in 1965, and the pair graduated in 1967. Denny and Susie reconnected years after graduating and married in 2000 in a gazebo on Pensacola Beach. During their joyful 23 years of marriage, they raised six cats together and spent their days hunting for seashells at the beach, playing Scrabble, and laughing with family.
Denny had a long career in men’s clothing, working in management at Ordon’s, S&K Menswear, and Jos. A. Bank. For more than 30 years, he worked with close friend Pat Nickerson, who he considered a sister.
Known for his humor and quick wit, Denny is also remembered for his sharp sense of style and love of history. He enjoyed searching through genealogical records and took pride in discovering that an ancestor was a signee of the Mayflower Compact. Additionally, he loved watching college football, golf, and major league baseball, especially his beloved Yankees, and delighted in texting colorful commentary to his brothers and sisters-in-law during big games and tournaments.
Described as a “master chef” by his wife Susie, Denny developed a passion for cooking from his mom, who spent many hours teaching him the art of down-home Southern cooking. He always brought delicious appetizers to gatherings, including homemade guacamole.
Denny enjoyed spending time at the beach, gardening and sharing clippings of his plants, and listening to concerts on Radio Margaritaville; he was a true Parrot Head.
Denny is survived by his wife and soulmate, Susie, brothers Stephen (Suzanne), Daniel (Sharon), Robert (Ellen), and Rodney (Connie), Aunt Peggy Tacon, cousins Randle (Suzanne) Grossman, LeAnn (Tracy) Tacon, and Lori (David) Ketchum, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lawrence ‘Larry’ Guess, and sister-in-law Sheila Guess.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital who showed excellent care for Denny, including Millanie, Sam, Aimee, Danielle, Rebecca, Mary, Bitsy, Jamie, Sarah, and Dr. Roark.
Denny’s ashes will be scattered on the beach near Fort Pickens during a small gathering of family and close friends on April 22.
