Obituary of Arthur Forney Ayers, Sr
Arthur F. Ayers, Sr. Major USMCR Ret. passed away in Pensacola, Florida on July 4, 2023.
Arthur was born on October 22, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland to Ira Winford Ayers, Jr. and Ida Mae Forney Ayers. In 1963, he graduated from Edgewood Jr. / Sr. High School in Harford County, Maryland. Art joined the United States Marine Corps, taking part in both the Reserves, as well as Active Duty for a combined service of over 20 years. He also spent 33 years as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep for Novartis. During his time in the Marines, Art graduated Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia, and served at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Arthur’s dedication to our nation’s freedom earned him a promotion in rank to Major before his eventual retirement from the United States Marine Corps.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Ira Winford Ayers, Jr. and Ida Mae Forney Ayers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Linda Hughes Ayers, daughter Carole L. Streacker (Jay), son Arthur F. Ayers, Jr. (Jessica), and brother Thomas Ayers, as well as grandchildren; Ashley (Gregory), Joey, Aaron, Laura, and Artie.
Arthur was a dearly beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was loyal, kind, generous, and a best friend to many. His family was his pride and joy, and he enjoyed a wonderful family life. Arthur will be deeply missed, and never forgotten.
There will be a private committal service for Arthur, where full military honors will be rendered prior to his interment at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL
