Obituary of James D Woods

James D. Woods, 62, of DeFuniak Springs, FL passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, after a brief illness.

James was born on July 10, 1961 in Goshen, Alabama to Mae Lois Hough. He moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL with his family and resided in Mary Esther, FL for most of his life. He moved to DeFuniak Springs, FL in 2013 and lived there until his
death. His father George Hough preceded him in death.

James was educated in the Okaloosa District school system and graduated from Fort Walton Beach High School in 1981.

James enjoyed being outside and especially loved the beach, body building and a really good steak. He was gregarious and loved being with his friends. James was a great storyteller. Some of his stories might make you raise an eyebrow but they always put a smile on your face. He was a lifelong rock and roll lover and proud of it!  He had a great love for his large extended family and always wanted a big hug and a big kiss on the cheek when he said goodbye.

James is survived by his mother, Mae Lois Hough, Mary Esther, FL; brother, Willie Woods, Conyers, GA; sisters, Edner M. Woods, Atlanta, GA and Gloria K. Hough, Atlanta, GA ; Aunts, Dorothy Harris (Clinton), Crestview, FL, Lossie Horne, Baltimore, MD, Jerdean Bethune (Walter), DeSoto, TX, Ivory Waters, Baltimore, MD, Neldia Walker (William) Hiram, GA, Velma Woods, Baltimore, MD, Betty Belser, Fort Walton Beach, FL and Curley Burrowes, Tarpon Springs, FL; Uncles, Johnny Ray Woods, Baltimore, MD, Bonnie Cure, Fort Walton Beach, FL and Harry Brown, Fort Walton Beach, FL; one niece, many cousins and friends.

James was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lamon and Sadie Woods; Aunts Ella Ree Cure and Mae Doris Brown and Uncle, Eddie Woods.

We gave him final big kisses on his cheek on Saturday, July 29, 2023 but it wasn’t goodbye. It was until we are all together again. This special loving man will be missed by all who knew him.

 

-Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug 5 from 11:00-11:45 AM at Beulah First Baptist Church, 109 McGriff St NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL.

-Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug 5 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Beulah First Baptist Church, 109 Mc Griff St NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL.

-Burial at Beal Memorial Cemetery, 316 Beal Pkwy NW Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
