Obituary of Dora Strickland Giles
On September 14, 2023, our dear mother Dora Jeanie Strickland Giles passed away. It was a day that will forever be etched in our hearts, a day when the world lost a shining light.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Genora Ruth Strickland, her father, Macon Strickland, her husband, Howard "Ron" Giles, and her eldest daughter the beautiful Rhonda G. Palma. Their absence weighed heavily on her heart, as she carried their memories with her every day.
She found joy and happiness in the presence of her remaining loved ones. Her spirit is upheld by her two remarkable daughters, Sandy G. Bayless (Glenn) and Darla G. Hughes whose devotion to their mother serves as a constant reminder of the enduring love that binds them together. Her brother, Malcolm Shelby Strickland (Susan), and sisters Jo Ann S. "Jody" Craney and Ruth Darlene Strickland Stewart (Bill), all whose lives were forever shaped by the bond they shared. To her cherished grandchildren Christopher Palma (Rachel S.), Gina Barber (Nate), Michael Palma, Andrew Kuntz, Adam Kuntz, Rachel A Hughes, Kendra Harvell (Gabe), and 9 great grandchildren, she was Mama Dee, a beacon of love and wisdom. She poured her heart into their lives, shaping them into the incredible individuals they have become.
Dora's unwavering dedication to her faith truly touched the hearts of everyone around her. It was within the sacred walls of her church that she found solace and strength, a place where her spirit soared and her soul felt at peace.
She selflessly dedicated her time and talents by volunteering at Baptist Medical Park, extending a warm embrace of empathy and genuine care to those in need. Her devotion to serving others radiated like a beacon of inspiration that touched the hearts of us all.
She was an avid Blue Wahoos fan and season ticket holder, rarely missing a game. The sight of her, cheering on her beloved team, was a sight to behold. And there, right beside her, stood her partner in crime, her soul sister Linda Midlam. We will be eternally grateful for the beautiful bond of friendship she shared with our dear mother.
As we mourn the loss of our precious mother, she instilled in us a valuable lesson – to never let the darkness overshadow the beauty of life. Let us cherish her memory, honoring the life she led and the love she bestowed upon us all. May her soul find eternal peace, while we seek comfort in the knowledge that her spirit shall forever remain within us.
A celebration of her life and committal of her ashes will be held at 11 am on November 3, 2023, at St. Monica’s Episcopal Church located at 699 South Highway 95-A Cantonment, FL. 32533. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to her beloved church honoring her memory.
