Obituary of Linda Delgado Hughes
Linda Sue Delgado
Sunrise 5/2/1950 - Sunset 5/12/2024
Born in Orange, TX to Major Genaro and Helen Delgado, Linda Sue spent her
childhood eating tomatoes off the vine, reading every book she could get her
hands on, and listening to the latest craze on the radio, Elvis! She found her
passion for music early in life while performing gospel songs with her little sister,
Becky. She attended West Orange High School, where she became known for
her beautiful voice through her many choral performances. After graduating in
1968, she then quickly began her musical journey.
She traveled the country musically, creating lifelong friendships along the way.
Fronting multiple bands, most notably, Sweet Peter, she toured through to the
mid 70s until she was ready to settle down and start a family. By 1982, she was
an adoring mother of three beautiful children. She made it known that her
children were her greatest life accomplishments. She taught them kindness,
empathy, and strength, but above all, to love unconditionally. By the 90s, she
was ready for the stage again, occasionally sitting in with the house band at The
Carousel Lounge, and later forming her own bands, making a name for herself all
along the Gulf Coast. She was often referred to as “Linda Blues Hughes”. She
also worked as a field manager for a local research firm, where she formed
everlasting friendships. Linda recorded two self-produced studio albums, with
several songs recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis, TN. After collaborating on
the “Permanent Stranger” album, she became professionally known as Mama
Lucky, performing all the way up to the year 2020.
Linda Sue is preceded in death by her father, Genaro Delgado; mother, Helen
