Obituary of Faye Johnson Sumlin

On Thursday, May 23, 2024 Faye J. Sumlin, age 88 peacefully passed away after a long struggle with Dementia in Pensacola, FL.

Iris Faye Johnson Powell Sumlin was born in Jacksonville, AL on January 28, 1936 to Huey and Ada Johnson, she was the youngest of 11 siblings.  After growing up in Jacksonville, she married, traveled and started her family, finally settling in College Park, GA.

She retired from General Motors Corp-Doraville working the assembly line, then owned her own cleaning service in the metro Atlanta area until she fully retired and relocated to Milton, FL with her daughters. Throughout her life, and especially after retiring, Faye enjoyed league bowling, her Giant Yard Sales, time spent at the casinos, her scratch-off ticket runs, was crazy about Elvis, and working in her flower beds - outdoors raking the yard. 

Faye was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, 9 of her 10 siblings and her beloved eldest son Donald A. Powell.  She is survived by her son Randall James Powell; daughters Teresa Faye Powell, Alicia Lou Cochran(Powell), Laura Catherine Confusione(Sumlin); Grandchildren Wesley Powell(Kelly), Blake Cochran(Lauren), Kori Powell, Olivia Iris Confusione; Great-Grandchildren Margot Cochran, Maxwell Cochran.
