Obituary of Darlene Grace Thomson
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Darlene (Dee) Thomson, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 29th, 2024 at the age of 63. She was born on August 12, 1960, in San Bernardino, California. Dee met her husband, William Thomson (deceased) in California and married him on December 16, 1981. Through that beautiful, 36-year marriage, they travelled the world together, raising an army of seven children.
Dee was a powder keg of love who dedicated her entire life to her children and grandchildren. She fostered a loving, comforting, warm, and fun household filled with dancing, singing, cooking, laughter, and acceptance. She had a firecracker personality and encapsulated the definition of “mama bear.” Whether that meant showing up to her kids’ school to correct a teacher or embarrass them at a little league ballgame by refereeing on the sidelines, she did it with a smile on her face and love in her heart. She was a champion for her children and always provided unconditional love, support, and a listening, judgement-free ear.
Dee was a kind, generous, selfless soul; always putting the needs of others first, often at her own expense. It is without a doubt, Dee’s proudest accomplishment in life was raising her seven children, all while supporting her husband’s Navy career for 31 years. She described herself as a domestic engineer, which speaks to her unique humor and playful attitude. She constantly made her whole family laugh with her outrageous and exaggerated facial expressions, silly sayings, and the way she pronounced certain words.
She loved all things red, her dogs, angels, polka dots, a cold wine cooler she could never finish, dancing like nobody’s watching, playing board games, going to the fair for the food, placing the final piece of a puzzle in place, and her husband, with whom she has now been reunited. Her unconditional love and compassion extended to all those who knew her and are an inspiration on how to approach life. Dee was one of a kind and to be loved by her was truly a blessing. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, unwavering strength, independence, and unequivocal joy for life.
She is survived by her children: Maria (Jim), Richard (Stephanie), Joshua, Jonathan, Sereena (Kristen), Christopher (Casey), Misty (Ryel), 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held for Dee on Friday, July 5th, 2024 from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Family Funeral Home, 5627 N. Davis Hwy, Pensacola, FL 32503.
Rest in peace, dear mother. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
