Obituary of Walter Scott Dowling
DOWLING, Walter Scott - age 66, was born Nov. 6, 1958 in Montgomery,
Alabama. He was a resident of Niceville, Florida when he was called to his
Heavenly home by our loving Heavenly Father in the early hours of Monday, April
29 th , 2024. Scott had fought a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.
This disease did not define him as he always had a friendly smile on his face and
thought it was better to be positive than negative, even through his trials. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Walter Riley & Mary Jane (Berney) of
Montgomery, AL and Mary Esther, FL. He is also preceded in death by his
grandparents, George Louis & Thelma E. (Riley) Dowling, Sr. of Montgomery, AL
and Alfred Eugene & Annie Irene (Kidd) Berney, Sr. of Knoxville, TN, as well as his
brother Steven B. Dowling and brother-in-law, Bobby Barkley of Mary Esther, FL.
Scott was a kind man with a big heart and was always thinking of others. He
loved to help people in need, when he could. He had lived in Mary Esther, FL for
many years before moving to Niceville, FL. He enjoyed spending time at the
beach and with his family, and extended family. He loved good food such as
tabouli, shish kabob, and seafood. A favorite pastime of Scott’s was reading
books and watching historical movies about WWII, as well as reading books on
geography and biographies.
Scott was a sports fan and enjoyed college football, as well as pro football teams
Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders. Music was a favorite pastime with Led
Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton being a few of his favorites. Scott had faith
and was a believer in Jesus Christ and knew and accepted Jesus as his personal
Savior.
For his career, Scott worked as a pipe fitter with his older brother, Steven, when
both were younger in the commercial welding industry, and then later became his
brother’s assistant in creating designs for welding. He spent some time working
in Australia and for Shell, as well as for a friend as a welder in Destin, Fla. He was
a smart man and loved a challenge in math.
Scott is loved and deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his
sister, Gail Barkley of Mary Esther, FL; and brother, Chris Dowling who is missing;
2 nieces, Lauren Barkley and Cheyanne Dowling and 2 nephews; Shane Barkley
and Bo Barkley; a great-nephew, Blaize Barkley; and 2 great-nieces, Taylor Barkley
and Bella Barkley; and many cousins. There will be a celebration of his life at a
later date to be announced.
