Obituary of Noreen Ann Moser
Noreen Ann Moser passed away on August 1, 2024 with the help of hospice, friends and her family at her home in Pensacola Fl.
She was born Noreen Ann Flaherty, July 28, 1938, in Flushing, NY to Anne T. and Martin Flaherty. She was sister to Eileen Flaherty, Susan Lemerise and Kevin Flaherty. She mourned the death of her son, Thomas Moser in 1963 in an accident in Key West Florida but is survived by the rest of the clan – headed by Kathleen Moser (David Ashton) of Albany, NY, Kevin Moser (Jessie Sharpe-Pittet) of Pensacola,FL/ Santiago, Chile, Sean Moser (Gwynne Rapier) of Mandeville, LA, Suzanne Moser (Andrew Thornton) of Charleston, SC, Marybeth Moser (Michael Murphy) of Mill Valley, CA, Megan Moser (David Stanley) of Bainbridge Island, WA and Bryan Moser (“Sports Psychologist” /Office Manager) and Wildcat of Pensacola, all of whom had to be home on a Saturday morning by 9am for yardwork. She has a gaggle of grandchildren including: Emily, Julia and Natalie (Ashton); Joshua, Michael, Francisca and Thomas (Moser); Megan and Colin (Moser), and Harper and Declan (Murphy) of whom she has taken great pride for their kindness, their intelligence and their accomplishments.
She was a devoted Catholic, although something of a nomad, having spent time in the company of the good people of the parishes of St. Paul’s, St. Joseph’s, Nativity, St. Anne’s and Sacred Heart Cathedral. She was a highly devoted member of her Friday Scenic Hwy Duplicate Bridge Group. She was also a member of both Trinitarian and Living Waters Cenacle- Catholic prayer groups over the years. In her earlier years in Pensacola she spent her time volunteering with Building Together through Catholic Charities, helped to get the program started at Morning Star (Special Needs Class Room) at Sacred Heart Cathedral, spent many hours sorting donations at St. Joseph’s Caring and Sharing Clothing Closet, and cared deeply for the kids at the St. Anthony’s Outreach – after school program. She was a fierce supporter of the work of Maryknoll and Pax Cristi groups involved in peace and justice in the world, giving generously to their causes and reading their monthly publications cover to cover.
Friends called her a “tremendous hostess” and they all wanted to be on the list to be invited to her Woodbine Drive residence for her gatherings. She continued to meet with her grade school/high school/college friends from Queen’s NY at St. Bartholomew’s, THE Mary Lewis Academy and St. John’s University where was one of only a few women “allowed” to study pure sciences, “but not ask too many questions from the back of the classroom”. She had the distinction of being head cheerleader for St. John’s Basketball, in addition to meeting and marrying her college sweetheart there. She then became a world traveler as a Navy Wife, gathering friends and having children at various locations including (chronologically) - KeyWest, Fl, Worchester, MA, McClean, VA, Flushing, NY, Bowie, MD, Manila, Philippines, Virginia Beach, VA, ending up in Pensacola, FL.
Our family’s heart felt gratitude and more importantly, our Mom’s love goes out specifically to DJ Frank, (nurse extraordinaire), Annette Godfrey (neighbor extraordinaire), Fr. Dennis O’Brien (priest extraordinaire) and Teena Easter (longtime family friend extraordinaire). You have made a difficult time full of comfort, smiles, connection and yes, laughter. She was richly blessed to have each one of you in her life. Thank you all for all you have done. She talked often and with much gratitude for the difference each of you have made in her life this past year.
Noreen’s favorite hymn was “Be Not Afraid” and those words reflect how she decided to leave this world. As Mom did say many times in her last days and hours, “Amen.”
A Service of remembrance and celebration of Noreen's life will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, on Saturday, September 7th at 10 am. With a reception to follow at her residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in the name of Noreen Ann Moser to Pax Christi, Maryknoll or Doctors Without Borders.
