Obituary of Mary Kay Kercher

Mary Kay Kercher, 81, of Pensacola, FL went home to be with Jesus and all the family who preceded her in death on September 10^th, 2024.  Mary Kay was born on August 13^th, 1943, in Bloomsburg, PA to Jack and Dorthy Gensemer, also fondly known as “Pop-Pop and Nana” to their grandchildren.

Mary Kay was a retired nurse and served as a caregiver to several friends and family members.  She was a devoted member of Windy Hill Baptist Church for over 25 years where she served faithfully.  Mary Kay had a deep affinity for the fur babies she cared for over the years and enjoyed the company of her Tiger and Jolee during her recent physical struggles. She fostered many dogs that eventually became her own. 

Mary Kay is preceded in death by her husband and friend of 42 years, Wayne Kercher, her parents Jack and Dot Gensemer, brothers John and Frank Gensemer, and only sister, Judy Bonifay. She is survived by her sons Bill (and Mary) Kercher of Suwanee, GA, and Ken (and Melissa) Kercher of Pensacola, FL.  She is also survived by three deeply beloved grandchildren, Brock Kercher, Graham (and Kailey) Kercher and Roni Kercher, her sister-in-law Elaine Gensemer, and her niece, Dori (Kellar) Harbin.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she loved dearly.  Mary Kay had other children whom she mothered, cared for and cherished early years with.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of VITAS Healthcare and most especially mom’s “angel”, Candace.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 4:00pm with visitation preceding at 3:00pm.  Service will be held at Windy Hill Baptist Church, 9896 Rebel Road, Pensacola, FL, with Bro. Ricky Skaggs officiating.
