Obituary of Dorothy S. Head

Dorothy Sheppard Head, age 91, of Niceville, Florida, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024.

Dorothy Sheppard Head was a blessing to many. We celebrate her life of 91 years and honor her memory as a loving wife and mother. The middle daughter of Jewell Williams and John Furniss Sheppard, she was born June 9, 1933, in Billingsley, Alabama. She enriched our lives in so many ways. She was an avid reader and delighted in spending time with her family. Dorothy met her husband of 56 years, Ronald Alan Head, on a blind date while at the University of Alabama where she received her Registered Nursing degree, which lead to a career of caregiving in a new-born nursery, orthopedic surgery, mental health, and public health.

She is grateful to have found the Lord at the age of 40 after her terminally ill younger sister, Elizabeth, asked her what she was facing in eternity. She grew up Methodist, but didn’t find Him; got married in the Baptist church and didn’t find Him; raised her daughters in the Episcopal church and didn’t find Him. But when she couldn’t answer Elizabeth’s question, she prayed, “If You are real, help me find You.” For 50 plus years she has been on the most wonderful journey of discovering Him. He blessed her with rich friends who also knew Him. She passes knowing the best is yet to come in Eternity.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Thomas; husband, Gregg; son, Mitchell Wrenne; daughter, Anne Milley, her husband, Frank and their daughter, Cara Grace. She is also survived by several dear nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Twin Cities Hospital for the exceptional care they provided. The family requests no flowers and will have a private ceremony in celebration of her life.
