Obituary of Jason Matthew Deal
Matthew Jason Deal, a devoted father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 26, 1969, in Smyrna, GA, Matt embodied unwavering love, loyalty, and compassion—qualities that made him not only a remarkable man but the very best example of what a father and friend could be. He was 55.
Matt lived much of his adult life in Navarre and Gulf Breeze areas of Florida, where he built a career spanning 27 years with Lockheed Martin, a company he loyally served with dedication and skill. His commitment to his work was mirrored by his steadfast love for his family and friends, who describe him as a true best friend, always there to lend a hand or a listening ear.
A proud Navy veteran, Matt served his country with honor, carrying the values of integrity and resilience with him throughout his life. He brought these qualities into his role as a father to his four sons, Jason Matthew Deal, Ryan Lawrence Deal, Gavin Thomas Deal, and Logan Briggs Regimbal, all of Gulf Breeze. To his sons, he was not only a father but a guide, teacher, and hero—setting an example of strength, kindness, and loyalty that will forever inspire them.
Matt is survived by his siblings, Benjamin Deal of Kennesaw, GA, Noah Murdock (Michael) of Athens, GA, Robin Bernens (Jack) of Dayton, MN, and half-brother Mike Connor (Carolyn) of Broken Arrow, OK. His ex-wife and best friend, Jennifer Merrihew of Gulf Breeze, will remember Matt as an unfaltering presence in her life and a partner in raising their beautiful family. He leaves close, life-long personal friend Ginny Bevill-Beamon of McDonough, GA. He was also a cherished brother-in-law to Tara Merrihew of Fairhope, AL, and Lori Anne Kranz (Jason) of Newbury Park, CA, and a beloved son-in-law to Lawrence and Shirley Merrihew of Fairhope. Nephews are J.T. Bernens (Chloe), and Benjamin Deal (Alexis), and nieces Jordan Mattson (Karl), Samantha Larson, Melissa Anderson, Alli Bresnock (Austin), and Julie Dugas (Chris). His kindness and strength were also a source of support to many others in his community.
Preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Hoyle and Wanda Sue Deal, Matt faced his final battle with cancer with the same courage and resilience he showed in all aspects of his life. Over more than a year, he fought tirelessly, never letting his illness dim his love or his spirit. In his final days, Matt was surrounded by those who loved him, a testament to the incredible relationships he nurtured throughout his life.
To have known Matt was to have known a man of rare integrity and warmth. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to call him family and friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at The Landing in Fort Walton Beach from Noon until 3PM.
