Obituary of Margaret Jane Worth

Margaret Jane Heilman Worth passed away December 10, 2024 from the ravages of dementia and Alzheimers Disease at Brookdale assisted living facility, she had endured since being diagnosed in 2019. She had been a resident of Santa Rosa Beach since 1998. She was born March 27, 1935 in Gainesville, Texas as the youngest of 5 daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Heilman and Olive Georgia Bruce Heilman, and her older sisters, Stella Heilman, Clarice Conrad, Joyce Israel, and Ruby Richards, all from Texas. She had a remarkable genealogical lineage in that both sides of her family were traced back to the 1600’s in Colonial America. Her ancestors immigrated from various European countries to several of the original 13 colonies and then gradually moved westward over the ensuing 200 years to 1840’s Texas. She has one ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War and several others who served on the Confederate side in the Civil War.

She is survived by Rod Worth, her husband of 71 years, her sons Clint Worth of Santa Rosa Beach and Russ Worth of Huntsville, Texas and his fiancée`, Amy Raihill. Also surviving her are her granddaughter Kristen Nicole “Nicke” Thomas-Worth of Rochester, Minnesota. She graduated from Tulane University with an MD.  She is married to James Thomas and has 2 beautiful great-granddaughters, Lily & Pepper, great-grandson, Talfan. Grandsons Russell “Eric” Worth, Jr.  of Reno, NV & Ryan Worth of Hahnville, LA. Both recently graduated from Louisiana State University.

She went to school in Ft. Worth, Texas where shortly thereafter she met her soon-to-be husband who was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth. She held several secretarial and administrative occupations during her lifetime the last of which when she retired in 1994, was working as a civilian maintaining the Army’s Real Property records for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Ft. McPherson, Georgia. She enjoyed raising her children and helping to raise her grandchildren and spent her leisure time cooking, baking, reading, and swimming.

The remains will be cremated after visitation and services open only to relatives and close friends at Family-Funeral & Cremation in Mary Esther, FL on Friday, December 13th, 2024 at 3:00PM.
