Obituary of Roger Lynwood Reed

Roger Lynwood Reed, "Doc Rog", age 76, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.  But now he is back taking care of his "fur kids" who have gone on before.

Roger was born in Pensacola, Florida on April 20, 1947 to Ernest L. Reed and Carol Hall.  Roger attended Choctawhatchee High School and went on to graduate from the University of Florida on June 13, 1981 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine.

Roger was married three times; first to Cathy Smart Losch in May, 1969, then to Jan Nichols in 1976, then to Micki Koch in October, 1985.

Roger was dearly loved and will truly be missed by the many many people who's lives he touched.  He was a well-respected Veterinarian and practiced for 42 years.  He was awarded Best Veterinarian of the Emerald Coast in 2000.  While he was not caring for the pets he so dearly loved, Roger enjoyed surfing, sailing, kayaking, running on the beach or just watching the beautiful sunsets.

Roger is survived by his daughter, Marci Jo LaPlount; granddaughter, Catherine Ashley LaPlount; brothers, Scott A. Reed, James M. Reed, and Ernest L. Reed, III; sister, Terry Reed-Wells.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest L. (Bud) Reed and Frances G. Reed.

 

A celebration of life is tentatively set for Roger's birthday, Saturday, April 20, 2024, on the beach behind the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island.  The time, as well as changes (if any) will be announced on the Reed Pet Hospital Facebook group page.
