Obituary of Susan Avery Brown
Susan Avery Brown spent her final breath in the early morning of Saturday, December 23, 2023, surrounded by her two children. Her passing was a merciful end to a long struggle.
Susan was born on January 31, 1946, in Union Springs, Alabama and spent many days in the town’s library reading books with her librarian grandmother. Susan’s family later relocated to Eufaula, Alabama, where her father ran the A&P grocery. She finished high school in 1964 and graduated with an Art degree from the University of Montevallo in 1969. In August of that same year, newly-married Susan moved to Crestview, Florida just in time to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Camille. After returning, she began teaching art at Richbourg Junior High School, would later move to the new Davidson Middle School, be elected Teacher of the Year and continue teaching thirty-five years before retiring. Some of Susan’s best days were spent exploring Australia, painting flower blooms, being shadowed by her dog, Blaze, and spoiling her grandchildren.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, William Thomas Posey; mother, Blanche Reid Posey; sister, Mary Jean Posey; and grandson, John Aiden Warren. She is survived by her children, Ian Avery(Laurel) and Allison Warren(John); her beloved grandchildren, Isabella, Logan and Avery; brother, Dr. Robert Posey(Mary Helen); sister, Ellen Posey, and nieces and nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Susan’s life revolved around her family, and they are comforted in their faith that she knows them once again. A light has gone out in our world, but a new star shines in Heaven.
